Reduction gearboxes

A reduction gear is a powerful drive element that reduces speed while increasing torque. This optimally adapts hydraulic motors and mechanical drives to the requirements of heavy-duty machinery. Reduction gears are used wherever high forces are required – for example, in agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, construction technology, forestry equipment and industrial drive trains. In the LöSi® web shop, you will find robust and durable reduction gearboxes in various designs, gear ratios and performance classes, designed for demanding continuous loads and difficult operating conditions.

What is a Reduction Gearbox?

A reduction gearbox is a mechanical force amplifier. It is connected between the drive (e.g., hydraulic motor) and the driven machine to reduce the input speed. The decisive physical effect here: The torque increases in the same ratio.

These gearboxes are essential when heavy loads need to be moved slowly and in a controlled manner. They make it possible to use compact, high-speed motors to drive applications that require enormous power reserves – from massive conveyor belts to earth augers.

Benefits of Our Reduction Gearboxes

Why is reduction so important? It protects the motor and maximizes efficiency. Our gearboxes are specially designed for combination with hydraulic motors.

Technical strengths in detail:

  • Massive Power Delivery: Transforms fast, low-torque motors into powerful drives for heavy-duty applications.
  • Bearing Protection: Reinforced output bearings absorb high radial and axial forces (e.g., from chain pull or belt tension) that would destroy the hydraulic motor.
  • Shock Resistance: Robust spur gear or planetary stages dampen load peaks.
  • Precision: High-quality gearing ensures low backlash and smooth running.

Typical Areas of Application

Reduction gearboxes are the "workhorses" in mobile and industrial hydraulics:

  • Forestry: Drive of cone splitters, stump grinders, and cable winches (high pulling force).
  • Construction Machinery: Rotary drives for concrete mixers and earth augers.
  • Material Handling: Slow-running belts for bulk material or heavy loads.
  • Agricultural Technology: Drive of spreader discs and dosing rollers.

Selection Criteria & Technical Data

Correct dimensioning prevents the gearbox from breaking under load ("gear tooth failure").

Check these parameters before ordering:

  • Reduction Ratio (i): Example 1:7 means: The motor turns 7x, the output 1x. The torque increases sevenfold (minus friction loss).
  • Maximum Torque (M2): Does the output shaft withstand the calculated force?
  • Design: Do you need a planetary gearbox (compact, coaxial) or a spur gearbox (offset axis)?
  • Shaft Connection: Do hollow shaft, splined shaft, or feather key fit the machine?

Tip: Pay attention to the installation position. With oil bath lubrication, the breather valve must always be located at the top to prevent leaks.
