PTO Pumps

A PTO pump is the ideal solution for generating hydraulic power directly via the power take-off shaft of a tractor or other commercial vehicle. It uses the rotational energy of the PTO shaft to provide hydraulic oil with a defined flow rate and sufficient pressure – perfect for mobile applications such as agricultural implements, forestry machines or mobile hydraulic power units. Thanks to its robust design, high efficiency and easy installation, the PTO pump available in the LöSi® web shop offers a reliable and powerful supply for a wide range of hydraulic consumers.

What is a PTO Pump?

A PTO pump (often also called a slip-on pump or tractor pump) is the mobile hydraulic power center for your utility vehicle. It is plugged directly onto the PTO stub (PTO) of the tractor or Unimog.

Since the PTO shaft usually rotates slowly (540 rpm), high-performance systems almost always consist of a combination: A PTO gearbox (step-up gearbox) and a flanged hydraulic pump (mostly Group 2 or Group 3). The gearbox translates the slow tractor speed into fast speed (e.g., factor 1:3.8) so that the pump has enough speed to generate high flow rates for log splitters or loading cranes.

Advantages of Our PTO Pumps

Why use an external pump when the tractor has hydraulics? Because this way you are independent. A PTO pump supplies attachments with their own oil circuit.

The decisive plus points:

  • Performance Upgrade: Often generates higher flow rates (l/min) than the internal tractor hydraulics of older models.
  • System Protection: Separation of oil circuits prevents contaminated oil from rental equipment from getting into your tractor's transmission ("avoid mixing").
  • Low-wear: Robust cast iron housings and hardened gears for rough forestry and field use.
  • Easy Installation: Thanks to the hollow shaft and quick release, the pump is ready for use in minutes.

Typical Areas of Application for the PTO Pump

These pumps are the workhorses in agriculture and forestry. They drive external consumers that require a lot of power or speed:

  • Forestry: The classic for driving log splitters and forestry winches (fast cylinder extension).
  • Agriculture: Operation of slurry tankers, loader wagons, or hydraulic brooms.
  • Municipal Technology: Drive of salt spreaders and mowing equipment in winter service.
  • Construction Site: Mobile hydraulic power units driven by the tractor.

Selection Criteria & Technical Data

For the splitter to run fast and the tractor not to stall, the coordination must be right.

Pay attention to these configuration details:

  • PTO Speed: Does your tractor run at 540 rpm (standard) or 1,000 rpm? The gearbox must match.
  • Flow Rate: Select the flow rate matching the consumer. Example: A 20 cm³ pump delivers approx. 40 liters/minute at 540 rpm (with 1:3.8 gearbox).
  • Input: Standard is usually the 1 3/8″ profile (6-spline). Check the stub of your tractor.
  • Fastening: Remember the torque arm (chains) so that the pump does not rotate with it!

Tip: For smaller applications, there are also directly driven pumps without a gearbox – however, these deliver significantly less oil flow.
