Filters
A hydraulic filter is an essential component of any hydraulic system and ensures that dirt particles, abrasion, water and other contaminants are reliably removed from the oil. Clean hydraulic oil protects pumps, valves, motors and cylinders from wear and tear and significantly extends the service life of the entire system. Hydraulic filters are used in mobile machines, industrial plants, hydraulic units and many other applications. In the LöSi® web shop, you will find a wide range of high-quality hydraulic filters – including pressure filters, return filters, suction filters and bypass filters in various sizes and filter finenesses.
What is a Hydraulic Filter?
A hydraulic filter is the "kidney" of your system. It has the critical task of continuously cleaning the hydraulic oil of solid particles (abrasion, dust, chips) and fluids (water). Since up to 80% of all hydraulic failures can be traced back to contaminated oil, the filter is not a minor matter, but the most important guarantor for operational safety.
We distinguish depending on the position in the circuit:
- Suction Filters: Protect the pump from coarse particles from the tank.
- Pressure Filters: Sit behind the pump and protect sensitive valves from finest abrasion (high pressure).
- Return Filters: Clean the oil before it flows back into the tank (standard solution).
Advantages of Our Hydraulic Filters
Clean oil means hard cash. An effective filter system lowers your total cost of ownership (TCO) massively by preventing unplanned downtimes.
Technical added value for your system:
- Wear Protection: Prevents the "sandpaper effect" of particles in pumps and motors.
- Valve Protection: Protects proportional and servo valves from jamming due to "silting" (fine sludge).
- Oil Service Life: Clean oil ages slower. This extends the change intervals of the medium.
- Ease of Maintenance: Many of our filters (e.g., spin-on cartridges) can be changed cleanly and without tools.
Typical Areas of Application
No hydraulics without filters. Depending on dirt ingress and component sensitivity, different concepts are used:
- Construction Machinery: Robust return filters for excavators, as much dirt is introduced here via the cylinder rods.
- Industry & Presses: Super-fine pressure filters (3-10 µm) to protect expensive control valves.
- Power Unit Construction: Compact tank-top filters as a standard solution.
- Oil Maintenance: Mobile off-line filter units for temporary cleaning of contaminated systems.
Selection Criteria & Technical Data
The filter must match the dirt ingress and the sensitivity of the system. A filter that is too fine clogs quickly, one that is too coarse does not protect.
Define these values before ordering:
- Filter Fineness (µm):
- 3 - 6 µm: For servo hydraulics and high pressure (absolute filtration).
- 10 - 25 µm: Standard for gear pumps and normal valves.
- Flow Rate: The filter must be large enough to handle the flow without high pressure loss (avoidance of bypass opening).
- Design: Do you need a Spin-On (replacement filter) or a filter element for a housing?
- Bypass Valve: Important for cold starts! It opens when the oil is too viscous so that the filter does not burst.
