What is a Screw Coupling?

A screw coupling (often referred to as a pipeline coupling) is the robust alternative to the push-in coupling. Instead of a click mechanism, the sleeve and plug are connected here via a stable thread.

This design ensures an extremely strong connection. Screw couplings are designed to withstand the highest hydraulic loads where conventional push-in systems would fail. They are the standard for applications where safety and tightness must be guaranteed under extreme conditions (dirt, vibration, pressure surges).

Advantages of Our Screw Couplings

When things get rough, the screw coupling is unbeatable. The threaded connection not only prevents accidental opening but also protects the valves inside.

The technical strengths in detail:

  • Vibration Resistance: Due to screwing, the connection is insensitive to strong shocks and hydraulic impulses (pressure peaks).
  • Coupling under Residual Pressure: Many of our models can be screwed together (usually without tools) even if there is still residual pressure in the line – a decisive advantage when changing attachments.
  • Robust Design: The thread is less sensitive to dirt and mechanical damage than fine push-in mechanisms.
  • Compatibility: Manufactured according to common standards (e.g., ISO 14541) for worldwide interchangeability.

Typical Areas of Application for the Screw Coupling

Screw couplings are the workhorses of hydraulics. They are found where maximum reliability is required:

  • Construction Machinery (Demolition): On hydraulic hammers and shears where enormous vibration forces act.
  • Mobile Cranes: Connections that must hold absolutely securely.
  • Vehicle Construction: Tipping hydraulics on trucks (Wet-Kit).
  • Industry: Test benches and presses with high pressure peaks.

Selection Criteria & Technical Data

For the coupling to fit and seal, the thread and standard must match.

Pay attention to the following parameters when selecting:

  • Thread Type: Is it a Metric Thread or a BSP Thread (Inch)? Check pitch and diameter.
  • Sealing Cone: Does the coupling seal via a cone (e.g., 24°) or is it flat-sealing?
  • Operating Pressure: Is the coupling designed for the maximum system pressure (often > 400 bar)?
  • Body Size: is the flow cross-section (DN) correct to avoid throttling losses and oil heating?

Tip: Always clean the thread of sand and dirt before screwing to maximize the service life of the union nut.
