Check valves pipeline construction

A check valve for pipeline construction is an indispensable component in hydraulic pipe and supply systems and ensures that hydraulic oil can only flow in one direction. This reliably protects pumps, pipes and consumers from backflow or unwanted pressure build-up. Check valves for pipeline construction are characterised by their robust design, wide range of connections and reliable sealing performance. They are used in mobile machines, industrial pipelines, stationary hydraulic units and in a wide variety of conveyor, lifting and assembly technology systems. In the LöSi® web shop, you will find high-quality non-return valves for professional pipeline construction in various pressure ratings and designs.

What is a Check Valve in Pipeline Construction?

A check valve for pipeline construction is the "one-way street" in your hydraulic system. It is an automatic blocking valve that releases the oil flow in one direction and automatically blocks it in the opposite direction leak-free.

Technically, it is usually based on a spring-loaded ball or cone seat. As soon as the pressure on the inlet side exceeds the spring resistance (opening pressure), the valve opens. If the pressure drops or the flow reverses, the spring immediately presses the cone back into the seat. This design protects sensitive components such as pumps from pressure shocks and prevents lines from running empty.

Advantages of Our Check Valves

Why is this small component so important? Because it prevents damage that could cost thousands of euros. Our valves are optimized for direct installation in pipelines (in-line mounting).

Technical strengths at a glance:

  • Absolutely Tight: Since they are seat valves, they seal metallically or with soft seals in the closed state – ideal for holding loads.
  • Pump Protection: Prevents pressure peaks from the system from striking back at the pump when it switches off.
  • Low Resistance: Flow-optimized housings ensure minimal pressure loss (Delta P) in the flow direction.
  • Robustness: Housings made of steel or stainless steel withstand high pressures and harsh environments.

Typical Areas of Application

Check valves can be found in almost every hydraulic diagram. They perform safety and logic functions:

  • Load-Holding Function: Prevents cylinders from sagging (e.g., on lifting platforms) as long as the pump is not delivering.
  • Bypass Valve: Bypassing filters or coolers when they are clogged (protective function).
  • Accumulator Protection: Secures the pressure accumulator against draining towards the pump.
  • Suction Strainer Foot Valve: Prevents the suction line from running empty when the pump is at a standstill.

Selection Criteria & Technical Data

The most important criterion besides the thread size is the opening pressure (cracking pressure). A wrong value can paralyze the system.

Define these values before ordering:

  • Connection Type: Do you need Internal Thread on Both Sides (for screwing in pipes) or cutting ring fittings (for pipeline installation)? Common are BSP (Inch) or Metric.
  • Opening Pressure (Cracking Pressure):
    • Low (approx. 0.5 - 1 bar): For standard flow and suction valves.
    • High (approx. 3 - 5 bar): If the valve is to be used as a pre-loading valve (creating back pressure).
  • Flow (l/min): The valve must not be too small, otherwise the oil heats up due to throttling.
  • Maximum Pressure: Is the housing designed for your system pressure (e.g., 350 bar)?
