Disc Brakes
Our hydraulically ventilated multi-disc brakes offer reliable holding power for hydraulic drives and are optimally matched to Gerotor motor series such as EPM®, EPRM®, EPMS® and their short versions ‘S’, “V” and ‘U’. Whether for semi-braking or full braking, conveyor technology or special-purpose machines — a multi-disc brake ensures secure holding, stable positioning and minimal installation space requirements. For over 30 years, users have placed their trust in our ELB® brakes, which are designed for quality, stock availability and technical advice.
What is a Multi-Disc Brake?
A hydraulically released multi-disc brake is a mechanical safety and holding brake. It works according to the "negative principle" (failsafe): Spring packs press the discs together and block the shaft as long as no hydraulic pressure is applied. Only when hydraulic oil is pumped into the brake ("releasing") do the discs open and allow movement.
Our ELB® series is specially designed as a compact add-on solution. It fits perfectly on our gerotor motors of the series EPM®, EPRM®, EPMS® as well as their short versions ("S", "V", "U"). This way, you transform a standard motor into a safe drive unit with holding function.
Advantages of Our Multi-Disc Brakes (ELB®)
For over 30 years, users have trusted in ELB technology. The decisive advantage lies in the combination of safety and extremely low space requirement. Since the brake often sits between the gearbox and motor or directly on the motor flange, the overall construction remains slim.
Your technical benefits:
- Maximum Safety: Reliable holding even in case of pressure drop, power failure, or hose rupture.
- Compact Design: Minimal installation space requirements with high braking force.
- System Compatibility: Optimally matched to our orbital hydraulic motors.
Typical Areas of Application for the Multi-Disc Brake
Hydraulically released brakes are prescribed or necessary wherever loads must be held securely at a standstill ("parking brake"). Typical applications are:
- Lifting Technology & Winches: Securing the load against sagging.
- Conveyor Technology: Holding conveyor belts on inclined ascents.
- Mobile Hydraulics: Parking brake for wheel drives in construction machinery.
- Special Machinery: Exact positioning and fixation of workpieces.
Selection Criteria & Technical Data
For the brake to hold securely, it must be matched to the torque of the motor and the load. The ELB series offers a wide spectrum of static torques from 7 daNm to 63 daNm.
Observe the following parameters during configuration:
- Holding Torque: Must be greater than the maximum occurring load torque.
- Opening Pressure (Release Pressure): What pressure is necessary to open the brake completely?
- Leakage Oil Pressure: Must not be too high in the return line so that the brake does not close accidentally.
- Interface: Matching shaft and flange size for your EPM/EPRM/EPMS motor.
Our team is happy to check whether the selected opening pressure fits your hydraulic system.
