The gear pump is the most common design of hydraulic pump. When the gear wheels, which are neatly fitted in the pump housing, rotate, the oil is pumped from the suction side in the gaps between the teeth around the outside to the right on the pressure side. Gear pumps usually consist of an aluminium housing and are available in various sizes.
