ELB Disc Brakes
The ELB multi-disc brake from LöSi® is a hydraulically ventilated multi-disc brake, specially developed as a holding and safety brake for gerotor motor series such as EPM hydraulic motors, EPRM hydraulic motors and EPMS hydraulic motors. Whether in conveyor systems, construction machinery or mobile hydraulic applications, the ELB multi-disc brake reliably secures standstills, positioning or load-holding functions. Thanks to a comprehensive range of variants, high stock availability and many years of experience in hydraulics, LöSi offers a high-quality solution for your application.
What is an ELB Multi-Disc Brake?
The ELB multi-disc brake is a hydraulically released spring-applied brake. It functions as an essential safety component in hydraulic drive trains. The operating principle is "failsafe": In the depressurized state, springs press the disc packs together and block the shaft.
Only when hydraulic oil is pumped into the brake chamber ("releasing") does the brake open and release the rotation. This makes the ELB series perfect as a parking or holding brake, which closes securely and fixes loads even in the event of power failure or hose rupture.
Advantages of the ELB Series (Type 288/289/290)
The ELB series impresses with its variety of variants and high power density in a small space. It is specially designed to be flanged directly to hydraulic motors (e.g., orbital motors) without unnecessarily increasing the installation space.
Technical Highlights:
- Broad Performance Spectrum: Static holding torques from 7 daNm to over 64 daNm cover light to heavy applications.
- Flexible Control: Opening pressures from approx. 4 bar to 26 bar allow adaptation to various hydraulic systems.
- Model Variety: Available in common sizes such as ELB/288, ELB/289, or ELB/290.
Typical Areas of Application for the ELB Multi-Disc Brake
Wherever safety is the top priority and unintentional "rolling away" or "sagging" must be prevented, the ELB brake is in use:
- Lifting Technology: Secures winches and cranes at a standstill.
- Conveyor Technology: Prevents rollback on inclined conveyor belts.
- Agriculture & Construction: Parking brake for wheel drives in harvesting machines and excavators.
- Mechanical Engineering: Fixation of axes in production.
Selection Criteria & Technical Data
Correct dimensioning is crucial for safety. The static holding torque of the brake must always be higher than the maximum occurring load torque of the motor.
Check these parameters in the data sheet before ordering:
- Holding Torque: Is the braking force sufficient for your load?
- Release Pressure (Opening Pressure): Can your system provide the necessary pressure (min. 4-26 bar) to open the brake completely?
- Interfaces: Do flange dimensions and shaft shape (e.g., splined) fit your hydraulic motor?
Also pay attention to the permissible return pressure in the leakage oil to prevent unintentional closing during operation.
