HKUS Steering Unit
The HKUS Lenkorbitrol is a sophisticated hydraulic steering unit that has been specially developed for mobile machines with increased requirements for precision, safety and steering comfort. Compared to standard orbitrols, the HKUS series offers additional safety and check valve functions and is designed for higher pressures and demanding operating conditions. It ensures sensitive, controlled steering movement and guarantees reliable supply to the steering cylinder – even under load, with changing flow rates or in critical situations. In the LöSi® web shop, you will find HKUS steering orbitrols in various displacement sizes and connection patterns.
What is an HKUS Steering Orbitrol?
The HKUS steering orbitrol is the safety variant among hydrostatic steering systems. Visually and functionally it resembles the standard HKU series, but the decisive difference lies inside: It features an integrated valve block with extended protection functions.
Specially developed for vehicles operating in rough terrain, the HKUS system protects hydraulic components from overload. It combines the precise metering of the oil flow with automatic pressure protection directly in the housing – this saves space and piping effort for external valves.
Advantages of Our HKUS Steering Units (With Valve Block)
Why should you rely on HKUS? Because impacts on the wheels (e.g., when driving against a curb or tree stump) can be fatal for hydraulic cylinders. The HKUS absorbs these peaks.
The integrated valve technology in detail:
- Pressure Relief Valve (PRV): Limits the maximum system pressure of the pump and protects against overheating.
- Shock Valves (Secondary Valves): These open lightning-fast in the event of short-term load peaks (shocks) coming from the wheels. The oil is short-circuited to prevent the lines from bursting.
- Anti-Cavitation Valves (Suction Valves): Prevent cavitation (vacuum formation) in the cylinder if the wheel is turned faster by external forces than the oil flows in.
Typical Areas of Application
The HKUS is mandatory for all machines where high forces act on the axles or where there is a risk of impacts:
- Forestry: Forwarders and forestry tractors driving over tree stumps.
- Construction Machinery: Wheel loaders and dumpers in heavy off-road use.
- Telehandlers: Maneuvering on uneven ground with load.
- Heavy-Duty Logistics: Forklifts and container handlers.
Selection Criteria & Technical Data (Type Key)
In addition to standard hydraulics, the HKUS series also offers options for modern Load Sensing systems.
Select the matching type based on your suffix:
- HKUS.../3 (Open Center - Load Reaction):
The steering wheel feels the road resistance ("Auto-Feeling"). Oil flows through in neutral circulation. - HKUS.../4 (Open Center - Non Load Reaction):
No feedback at the steering wheel. Impacts are absorbed by the valve, the steering wheel remains calm. Standard for slow machines. - HKUS.../5 or /5T (Load Sensing):
Closed Center - Non Load Reaction: For systems with LS pump. The orbitrol has an additional LS port for controlling the pump. Static or dynamic signal possible.
Important: Check the set pressure of the shock valves. This should be approx. 20-30 bar higher than the system pressure.
