Steering Columns

A steering column is a central element in hydraulic steering systems for mobile machines and connects the steering wheel mechanically or hydraulically to the steering unit. It enables ergonomic, safe and precise operation of the vehicle steering system – even under demanding operating conditions. Modern steering columns offer variable height and tilt adjustments, robust bearing technology and durable materials for professional continuous use. In the LöSi® web shop, you will find high-quality steering columns for tractors, construction machinery, municipal technology and special vehicles – suitable for various steering orbitrol models and machine concepts.

What is a Steering Column for Orbitrols?

The steering column is the mechanical link between the driver (steering wheel) and the hydraulics (steering orbitrol). It transmits the rotational movement of the hands directly to the metering pump.

While rigid tubes were often installed in the past, modern steering columns are highly functional components. They often offer integrated height and tilt adjustments to adapt the cab ergonomically to different drivers. The connection to the orbitrol is usually made via a standardized spline, which makes replacement or retrofitting very easy.

Advantages of Our Steering Columns

A good workplace increases productivity. Our steering columns transform the driver's station into a comfort zone without compromising on robustness.

Why you should upgrade:

  • Ergonomics: Thanks to adjustable tilt angles and telescopic height adjustment, every driver finds the optimal seating position. This prevents fatigue.
  • Robustness: Massive bearings absorb axial and radial forces that arise when the driver holds onto the steering wheel (e.g., when entering).
  • Compatibility: Perfectly matched to the standard connection patterns of common steering orbitrols (HKU, OSPC, etc.).
  • Functionality: Many models offer integrated horn slip rings or mounts for turn signal levers and ignition switches.

Typical Areas of Application

From the simple yard loader to the high-tech tractor – the steering column is a central element in:

  • Agriculture: Tractors and harvesting machines (retrofitting to comfort steering).
  • Construction Machinery: Wheel loaders and excavators where vibrations must be safely absorbed.
  • Industrial Trucks: Forklifts with adjustable steering columns for fast driver changes.
  • Special Vehicle Construction: Individual cockpit solutions for municipal vehicles.

Selection Criteria & Technical Data

For the assembly to work, the connections at top and bottom must fit.

Check these dimensions before ordering:

  • Total Length (L): How long must the column be (measured from flange to steering wheel mount)?
  • Bottom Connection (Orbitrol): Standard is often a 4-bolt flange with internal splines that engage the shaft of the orbitrol. Check the hole pattern!
  • Top Connection (Steering Wheel): Do you need a taper with woodruff key or splines for the steering wheel?
  • Functions: Should the column be rigid, tilting, or telescopic?

Tip: Pay attention to whether a horn button is planned in the steering wheel – for this, the column must have a cable feed-through.
